First you will need to have and/or familiarize yourself with Winzip...as all league files are in this format.
You also need to be careful and choosy about what league you join. There are tons of great leagues out there. But also tons of bad ones. Look for well established leagues...or leagues that are picky. I say this beacause a league that is picky about it's member's is more likely to be well run or at least serious in its intentions.
The biggest thing is whether you want real/historical or fictional. My experience is that real roster's have higher tunover and more BS. Although this is not absoulte of course.
Post your intntions/experience...and guys will let you know if they have what your looking for.
Get or utilize AIM. Alot of trade talk and league business is conducted through AIM.
Have alot of free space on hard drive. League files tend to be very large.
As for a tutorial...i am sure there are some...I would try running a search...i am positive you'll finds loads of info.
