I dunno, I saw Bobby Allison's accident live in 87 and I can't even fathom what it would be like if that happened now since the cars would probably be doing close to 250mph. NASCAR came pretty damn close to recreating Le Mans 1955 and, IMHO, wisely did what they had to in order to make things safer for the spectators. More can be done to make it safer for the drivers, but I think first and foremost you have to ensure the safety of the grandstands.
Edit: I'm also going with Gordon, but I'd keep an eye on Martin Truex and Denny Hamlin (plus they're 2 of the most accomplished sim-racers out there).
