August 1890 results from The Cow Palace

SAN FRANCISCO - Frank Slavin continues his rise in the ranks tonight with a thorough victory over fellow countryman Bill Doherty. Early in the bout, both fighters were landing bombs at will to the delight of the capacity crowd. Doherty rocked Slavin several times early with his powerful right, but Slavin himself did steady damage to Doherty's face throughout. The balance began to tilt to Slavin in the 4th, as Doherty started to slow. Slavin dumped Doherty to the canvas for the first time in the 6th, and ol' Bill was never the same thereafter. By round 9, Doherty's face was a mass of swelling, his hands starting to drop with fatigue. Slavin took advantage, finding the way clear for his ruthless fists, and sending Doherty to the mat 3 times in the round, the third ending the fight and giving Slavin a TKO victory.

In other bouts, two undefeateds continue to climb as well, as Jim Harvey dispatches Jack McAuley in the Co-feature, and Peter Courtney improves to 23-0 with his KO of Charles Lang.
