The league is currently at August 1991, with the Pirates and Mets both open.
For some reason the Mets ownership has been a revolving door this season. They have good power in Rafael Palmeiro, Nick Esasky and Jack Clark, plus a solid rotation led by Bill Gullickson. The Mets are sitting in second place in the NL East. The franchise is in good financial shape, however the immediate challenge for a new owner will be to prioritise contract negotiations, as the list of potential free agents this season is quite long.
The Pirates are sitting in third place, just half a game behind the Mets, with strong finances. Most potential free agents have been re-signed. This ballclub has some awesome talent on the roster, with the likes of Andres Galarraga, Dale Murphy, Larry Walker (24yo), Dante Bichette, Julio Franco, Curt Schilling (24yo), Tom Glavine (25yo), John Wetteland (24yo). Can you say "dynasty"?
