It is going to be one of two things (I'm not real sure which).
1. He will get assigned an arbitration contract.
2. He will become a free agent.
The minor league contract will not stick if you have minor league free agents on.
If you don't want him to become a free agent, I would put him on the 40-man just to make sure.
