Directory is just another name for folder. The data directory you describe is created within the OOTP History folder when you install the program. "
Data Directory: The folder where the team data files are saved. This will be set to the data folder created when making a new database." <-- That means you do not need to edit that path, the default program setting leads to the correct DATA folder.

The hard drive folder is also created when you install the utility. From the readme -
"Hard Drive Directory: The folder where the main site index will be saved. This will be set to the website folder created when making a new database." <-- That means you do not have to edit that path either, the default path is something like "../OOTP HISTORY/WEBSITE" - no need to change it.

Data is just information, & data files are files with info in them. OOTP History gets data (info) from the PLAYERS.DAT file via Pierres CSVReporter. OOTP History also gets data/info from OOTP's html output files. The OOTP History readme file assumes you you know how to generate html files from OOTP, and it assumes you know where (what folder/directory) that you generated the files into.

. I fear that my explanations will just not be as good as the readme's explanations but if this is helpful I'm happy to blab away. Maybe check out the readme and ask specific questions about a specific section within it.
