Many countries grant de facto citizenship to foreign born children of citizens. I believe that Canada and the US have reciprocal laws granting dual citizenship to children who qualify.

From what I"ve found you are correct. Being a part of a commonwealth country to make this process much easier than if you had say, moved to Mexico or something.
Also if a Canadian and American got hitched, their kids (ot my understanding) would be dual citizens. Quite handy for certain careers actually.
