I have been working on a couple new websites, so I have put the AU on the back burner, holding off releasing the new version, as I still have not perfected the PBP.
However, I went today and did a quick mod.
First, let me explain what a guy.txt file is. One of my functions creates a nice game by game report for any player. It shows every game, ever line score for the guy, pitcher or hitter. It color codes if he was player of the game, had a hitting streak, winning streak, injury or was ejected.
It is a very nice looking report for the players, allowing you to see his year history in a nice layout.
However, it does this by going through every box score, one by one. But, it does it rather quickly. It takes about 10 seconds to go through a whole season of box scores and tabulate the data. No problem. But, times that by 3000 players and we now have a long routine. Problem is, it takes just as long to do a guy that played everyday, than one that just played in 1 game.
Now, you can do one player at a time if you want or you can do the whole league. For online leagues, to do this at the end of the season, or even at the 1/2 point or 1/4 report, it is not really that bad. Since you can click it and go watch ESPN while it does it's thing. Your online league will REALLY appreciate this type of report.
So, now the guy file. It was created because of a league I ran. Myself and 12 other guys follow the careers of 'their' players. So, I have those 13 players in the guy file. I click it and it just creates a gbg for each of those guys and also a nice html menu to view the guys. It has worked flawless for me.
To add a guy to the list, it is very easy. Go to config and click on modify guy list and you will see a list of all the teams. Click on a team and you get a list of all the players. Click on a name and he is thrown in the list on the right of guys. Add as many as you want, click their name on the right to remove them. Save it and move on.
So, now I added a new button. Create a guy list from the leaderboard. Well, I made a mistake. I did not use the top 10 leaderboard, I used the top 5 leaderboard, which includes all of the past leaders in the entire history of the league. Oops. Hey, wait. That is not so bad of an idea. Sure, it will have a lot of guys that are retired, but that does not slow the program down any when it runs, as it just checks this list for names. So, I let it be.
It is cool as beans, as it has the 'leaders of the league' in this.
Now to add a button to do a 'whole team'. And what else... hmmmm..
