They're also pursuing a three-way deal that would send White/Mondesi to Colorado (where they should produce SOMEWHAT) for Colorado to send Neagle to the Mets, with the Yanks paying some of Neagle's salary. Which makes very little sense, but they explained it better on ESPN.com (
http://espn.go.com/mlb/columns/caple_jim/1467091.html):
<<Let's see. The Yankees reportedly may trade Raul Mondesi and Rondell White to the Rockies in exchange for no one. In order to get no one for Mondesi and White, the Yankees reportedly also must pay Colorado pitcher Denny Neagle $10 million over the next three years to pitch for the Mets. The Rockies will pay Neagle even more money not to pitch for them the next three years.
Err, could you give that to me again?>>
Basically, the Yanks are looking to send $13 million in payroll to Colorado, and in exchange will pay about $3.3M a year of Neagle's bloated salary. Everyone seems to be a winner, even if it doesn't make a terrible amount of sense on the surface.
