Dennis Rodman will be back on the court next season, though it’s probably more of a publicity stunt than the beginnings of an NBA comeback.
The former NBA Defensive Player of the Year and five-time NBA champion, also known for his off court lifestyle and antics, will play two games in Iowa with the Cedar Valley Jaguars of the International Basketball League, IBL officials said Tuesday.
‘‘Dennis Rodman is a truly unique human being, who is not only a great athlete but also one of the best entertainers in the world,’’ Jaguars owner Eduardo Diaz said in a statement.
According to the IBL, Rodman has signed to play May 19-20. Details of his deal were not released.
The IBL is a second-year professional league that promotes a high-scoring brand of basketball. The league has 25 teams across the United States.
Both games are scheduled to be played in Waterloo.
Rodman, 44, played on five NBA championship teams — two in Detroit and three in Chicago. He played his final season in the NBA for Dallas in 1999-2000.
