On April 25th 1950 Hobbs fought in a Heavyweight Competition to begin his career. He Ko'd Fred Powell in round 1, stopped Johnny Francis in round 2 and KO'd Jock MacVicar in round 1. Hobbs then won 4 more fights by stoppages, once each in the next 4 months. After that he then quit fighting for almost 3 years. In April 1953 he stepped back in the ring finally but was stopped in the first round by Hugh Ferns when he suffered a cut eye.
Over the next year and 5 months Hobbs won 8 and lost 2 fights, one a 2nd round disqualification to Hugh Ferns for an alleged low blow. He won fights against Joe Crickmar, Reg Andrews twice, Jock MacVicar, Simon Templar, Jose Gonzalez Sales, Prosper Beck and Young Al Bernard. Hobbs last career fight came in September 1954 against Johnny Williams in an eliminator bout for the British Heavyweight title. Williams stopped Hobbs in the 7th round.
