Here's another little quirk ...

I've had two instances now where I've been able to easily acquire former MVPs who had suffered SEIs. I'm talking about guys in their 20s, not old codgers barely hanging on. In both cases, I was able to swing trades by offering 2-3 good (not great) players or prospects. The guys I landed were on the DL at the time, missed the rest of the season and the first 3-4 weeks of the next, but have been healthy and extremely productive ever since. In fact, one of them may win his 3rd MVP for my current season.
