Sean Avery
One of the looniest characters in the NHL. Here are a few events of the past few months involving this Los Angeles Kings forward:
1. February 2005: Interviewed by a Toronto radio, Avery had the following comments to make about a potential contraction in the NHL: "I think they can eliminate a lot of Europeans who are mediocre and are taking a lot of jobs."
2. September 2005: Commenting the hard but legal body check applied on Jeremy Roenick (giving him his 11th career concussion) by Denis Gauthier, Avery had this to day: “I think it was a clean hit. I think it was typical of most French guys in our league with a visor on, running around and playing tough and not back anything up.”
3. October 2005: Georges Laraque, a black, French-speaking player (who doesn't wear a visor and isn't really afraid of rough play) accuses Avery of calling him a "monkey" during an NHL game. However, Avery had a rough week, because in the same period of time, he managed to get viciously punched by a player (who wasn't black nor French, but I can't remember who it was).
Now that's your role model.
