What puzzles me is that if the ball went out of bounds isnt the clock already stopped and they can just bring out the field goal unit? The only thing I can think of is they didnt have the time on the play clock to do so but I would think that with all the confusion that would have been stopped as well while the refs got the call right. I don't know where you got that idea. Carroll said field goal was never in his plan, and he wanted to go for it all along. He wanted to win, not tie.
