He said that the motion he made was his "strike three mechanic when it's a swinging strike." There was no "out" call. His first motion was his right arm going to the side, something that can only be interpreted as a safe call (which is what umps do on a trapped ball). The second motion was what I quoted above.
Plus, like OTBA said, Paul didn't see it anyway.

What the hell rulebook are you reading? The batter isn't out until he reaches the dugout steps. He took a step and had barely reached the right-handed batters box. What if this had happened to a right handed batter whose dugout was on the first base side? Wouldn't he be going TOWARDS the dugout, at least momentarily? That argument falls apart really quickly, even when you ignore the actual rules (which is what you did).
