League News
There isn't much time left in the inaugural Bay League season. With just a 70-game schedule, the season is nearly to a close, with just 8 or 9 games remaining for all teams. What are we looking at down the stretch? The Lorris Greens have once more taken hold of the top spot they owned early in the season. A rough stretch by Gentry Hills has taken them nearly out of the running, while Deepvale isn't far out at just a half-game. The big surprise is the surge of the Silver Beach Whales, riding a 12-3 record in August to pull in just 2.5 games out of the lead. What does the schedule look like in the final month?
Lorris has one game remaining vs. the Tifton Generals at home, followed by a pair against Marsein in Lorris and a home-and-away split of 5 games against Gentry Hills to finish it out. Deepvale has one remaining in Silver Beach, and then a pair in Elliott Springs before finishing out the season with 6 back at Two Rivers Field against the two bottom teams, Marsein and Allison. Silver Beach faces the Ferrymen as already mentioned for one, followed by 3 at home against the Allison Spelunkers, and 5 straight against Elliott Springs. The Tornadoes have the roughest road, facing two teams ahead of them in the standings for 7 of their final 8 games, but by the same token, with a hot streak, they could make a big leap forward. The Gentry Hills Scouts' only real hope at this point is to put together a sweep of Lorris in the final five games of the season. The schedule appears to favor Deepvale at this point.
Finally, in non-league news, there are reports out of the northlands -- the area around Land's Edge and North Reach -- that ships setting out for fishing expeditions toward The Sisters, the two mountainous islands on the northwest coast, have been disappearing, even when the weather is perfectly calm. The Sisters are known to be forbidding and the seas around them and through the straits difficult to pass, but nothing of this magnitude has been seen before.
