The answer to almost every one of these trade questions is, the team felt it no longer made sense to be paying that player the salary they were paying him, or he was headed to free agency and they knew they couldn't afford him. The Yankees are fortunate enough that they do not care what the player makes if they think he can help, and if he doesn't help, they trade him away and pay 90% of his salary.
