Herrera ekes out first LW win
April 28, 1909
Aurelio Herrera (14-8) scored a SD10 over George McFadden (9-9-2) for his first win at LW and to stop a streak of 2 straight losses and 3 out of 4.
Herrera came flying out of his corner in the first looking for an early KO and promptly got knocked on his butt. He recovered and was battling back by the end of the round. He took control of the fight winning the next 3 rounds, swelling up McFadden's right eye in the process.
McFadden won the 5th round and then Herrera won the 6th,7th and 8th. Herrera appeared worn out after the 8th and appeared to lose the last two rounds.
Mark Somogyi, ringside expert, and I both scored the fight 95-94 for Herrera. Two official judges scored it the same with the third scoring it 96-95 for McFadden.
