Mets' Bats Break Out, Thump Cards

NEW YORK - After 3 frustrating nights of being baffled by Chicago pitchers, the New York Mets got out their aggression on the '34 Cardinals yesterday in an 11-3 whooping.

Howard Johnson 5 RBI and 3 hits - including a grand slam. Keith Hernandez went 4-5 on the night and Kevin Mitchell added 3 hits and 2 RBI.

"It's nice to finally get our offense going," Hernandez said. "Let's hope this is the pace we keep up."

Mets starter Ron Darling pitched well, allowing just one earned run in six and a third. Randy Myers came on to get the final 8 outs.
