The inaugral season provided two heated divisional pennant races out of the four divisions. Over the last month of the season, the Allentown Millers had pulled ahead of the Scranton Claws, who then fought their way back, and forced a playoff.

Over in the Delmar League's First Division, the Frederick Possums refused to play dead and went into the last game of the season tied with the Gaithersburg Gappers. Frederick had to play against the Second Division Champions Annapolis Middies, took the lead early in the game but gave it away, and lost. Meanwhile, Gaithersburg came back and behind in their game to win, and clinch the First Division pennant, along with tussling against the Annapolis Middies for the Delmar Championship.

In the Penn League, the Allentown Millers beat the Scranton Claws in the playoff, and went on to meet the York Puddingheads for the Penn League Championship.

Both league championships went the full five games. Allentown's hero in their come from behind victory of game 5 was first baseman Eddie McGill, who hit a bases loaded 2-out double that sent the York Puddingheads home without any pudding.

Annapolis won the Delmar Championship when the eventual winner of the Delmar Slugger Award, Darrell Clark, grounded out weakly to shortstop with the bases loaded and the game on the line.

The Championship Series looked to be a battle of batting brawn, Annapolis, versus pitching, Allentown.
