[obligatory backstory Genesis, or how I rationalize the use of 3 states for this]

The world wondered why the huge metallic-looking sphere was headed for Earth, after blowing up Mars along the way, yet scientists were baffled by how the measurements that could be made showed that the massively dangerous object showed no signs of a gravitational field.

Which turned out to be a good thing when the object parked itself right overhead the White House, and made the following announcement:

"PUNY HOOMANS WE HAVE NEED OF YOUR BASEBALL SKILLS BUT WE DON'T NEED YOUR WHOLE PLANET. WE WILL BE TAKING PENNSYLVANIA, DELAWARE AND MARYLAND FOR OUR AMUSEMENT AND YOUR CONTINUED EXISTENCE. THANKS PEACE OUT."

1 hour after the stern, if courteous, announcement, gigantic mutant alien space robots in the shape of the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters poured out of a hatch with tools that resembled chainsaws, though much much larger as they were chainsaws designed for the specific purpose of removing landmasses from planetary bodies.

Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware were quickly removed, and sucked inside the aliens' portable Dyson Sphere.

Thus begins the Penndelmar League.
