i havent seen this happen in my league, but i am gettin the case of NFL type fever in my league.
In 2006 the Minnesota Twins won the World Series. In 2007 they finished fourth in their division.
In 2007 the Phillies won the World Series. Currently in mid June of 2008, they are in last place with a sub.500 record in the NL East.
In fact, the past couple of champions have been as followed:
2004: Padres
2005: Cardinals
2006: Twins
2007: Phillies
Only the Cardinals have been as far as the NLCS after winning the Championship. They lost in 7 games to the Twins in the 2007 World Series.
The Padres have remained competitive through 2007, but then decided to trade Pedro Martinez (the most dominant pitcher in my league) for 2 minor leaguers and Sammy Sosa (currently with 760+ career home runs and still goin). The Pads arent that dominant anymore. Goes to show that pitchin is very very important.
Interesting to see that every year, almost every team has a shot at winning a championship. Every team in my league has finished at least in 3rd place in their division. Not bad.
