Rhodes could succeed in the 9th if the matchups are right. That was the problem last year - he couldn't just be the closer. I agree that the closer role is overrated. A lot of times you can just go with your best matchups and be fine. Who cares if one guy doesn't rack up all the saves?

My philosophy I game with is right man at the right time. If the other team is rallying in the 7th, put your best reliever in then to kill the rally. A rally facing you in the 7th is reality you have the means to deal with there and then, anticipating a rally in the 9th is speculative at best. Use your best to deal with what is the known, true threat, not what might be a threat later on.
