You are talking about whether a player should make the HoF pruely on the basis of his Statistical output. There is little discussion of the number of time he helped lead his team to the playoffs, or how he helped develop a young pitching staff into All-Stars themselves, etc.
Gary Carter would be a good example.(

An there isn't a lot of question if he should be in the HoF (72% of the vote last time)
In real life he have a different perspective on the players. An even though we can and do get attched to our OOTP players, it mostly comes down to numbers for HoF consideration.
Not saying Mark's player should or shouldn't be in the HoF, just think it's funny how we judge OOTP players vs the discussions that pop up in the 'Talking Baseball' forum about real players and whether they should be in the HoF.
