No, baseball doesn't need to do anything extreme, but they should make sure they have adequate security to prevent things like this from happening. If it means hiring a few more security personnel, so what? I would think, especially considering the possibility of terrorist attacks, etc., that you would want to feel safe in a stadium.

I never said there should not be security. I guess the question is what is "adequate" security by your definition? Adding a "few more" to the security staff probably would not have stopped those two losers or deterred them from entering he field. I see/hear several people saying, "baseball MUST DO something!" I just want to know what they propose to do. The only way you would come close to preventing this from ever happening would be to enact some of my ludicrous proposals I previously listed.
There is a difference between having "adequate" security and having so many you feel like you are in the yard at Rikers. The Dodgers have a large force of inconspicuous security personnel. I am aware they are there but not so much that they are in my face or I am reminded of them every inning. That's enough for me. Like I previously pointed out, the roaming bands of yellow-jacketed security personnel at the Coliseum for Raiders games was too much for me. Unfortunately it was needed due to the dozen or so fights that would break out between innocent Raiders fans and those bating, drunk, misguided Bronco and Chargers fans
And baseball teams are not going to stop selling beer. Not in my lifetime.

As for this being an "isolated incident", yes, it is. But what should we do - ignore it until it gets to a certain frequency, e.g. a limit of 1 beating per year? Where do you draw the line? If it only happens once in a while, then it's fine? Why not take whatever precautions necessary to reduce the chances of this to almost nothing?

Again, a little extreme here. It's probably not going to escalate to "one beating per year" or become as common as the wave at baseball games. There will always be loopy drunk fans that feel the need to run onto the field but how many times in history has a fan run out onto the field intending to cause harm to a participant? Extremely rare as far as I can recollect. Hell, Morganna just wanted to kiss them. I can count more times of players going into the stands after fans than I can fans going on to the field to attack players.
Baseball could go the route the NHL did. As you probably remember, a teenage girl was killed by a hockey puck off a player's stick. It was the first spectator death in the NHL's 85 year history but the league chose to put safety nets in every arena to prevent pucks from hitting the fans behind and around the goals. It is too extreme in my opinion but they obviously chose to adopt the "one time is too many" approach.
