The German born Ptak fought out of France where he assembled an impressive record early in his career. He won 37 of his first 39 bouts including a ten round decision over Elis Ask. The last 22 bouts of his career saw Ptak fall apart against better European competition. He went 4-16-2 over this stretch losing to Lahouari Godih, Jose Hernandez, Marcel Ranvial, Mario Vecchiatto, Annibale Omodei, Victor Pepeder, Jean Sneyers, Fernand Nollet and Fred Galiana. Despite the poor finish, Ptak was only stopped four times.
