Fatigue is a mysterious and hidden element as Steve alluded. I have a catcher who gets tired if I play him more than 10-11 games in a row (app.) while I have a shortstop (50-60SB/year) that never has been tired - that I've seen.
I've played some long long extra inning games and figured that the next day might find some tired players - given the schedule often packs those days together - but no, nobody. Even relief pitchers I thought sure would prove no use had _some_ ability to throw up a few pitches.
The mystery is its ultimate impact, like so many elements of this game, and whether to _trust_ it for today's performance. I go with the idea that a manager does what he has to do. Simple.
I've seen tired players hit triples, tired pitchers throw several strike outs in a row, a player with cold streaks hit some of their best games of the week. Go figure.
