O' Brien Gets His Revenge And Title
March 13, 1907
#2 Philadelphia Jack O'Brien (17-2-1) cruised to an UD15 over champion Jack Root (22-7-1) in the rematch of their October fight that seemed to be stopped prematurely in Root's favor.
O'Brien stayed to the outside and out boxed Root. There were no knockdowns and only Root suffered a cut. It was a cut under Root's left eye in the 9th.
Pretty boring and non-eventful fight.
I had it 146-139. Aurelio Barrios, the ringside expert, had it 145-141. The official judges had it 146-140/146-139/146-139.
On the undercard
MW - Tommy Ryan (27-0) UD10 Charles Goff (10-3-2) (Ryan's middleweight debut)
LW - Harry Gilmore (19-10) UD10 Sam Bolen (4-9-1) (Bolen drops to the club ranks)
BW - Al Delmont (11-6-1) UD10 Charley Kelly (3-5-1)
MW - Frank Klaus (9-2-1) TKO6 Jack Moffat (7-5)
HW - William Schiller (10-2) UD10 Mike Brennan (11-14)
