I'm aware that the schedule is unbalanced. Thanks. They wouldn't have the Rangers' record if they had the Rangers' schedule. The Mariners wouldn't have their record if they had the Rangers' schedule either, as they would have most likely split with themselves.
Really! Everybody knows that the Twins can't win in the playoffs? You're right. I agree, as I ALSO like to make unfounded claims.
They would have trouble getting past any of those teams. That's because the best teams make the playoffs. I don't believe that they would beat the Yankees. As somebody who has been to or watched almost every game this season, I think that if they play well they could beat the Red Sox, Angels, Mariners or A's. Unless you've seen them play games against all of these teams, I wouldn't talk. You need to provide a REASON for your claims, you see...since I have no reason to believe that you should just "know" what "everybody" thinks.
Again, you don't know what you're talking about. The contraction issue did not create the Twins' success. They had a bad second half last season due to some key injuries (Guzman, especially) and due to the fact that they were so young and inexperienced with pacing themselves for a season. This season, they have not had the same injuries to position players in the second half, and Gardenhire has taken steps to make sure players don't get tired.
I'm not going to claim that the Twins are going to win the series, but the idea that they're only doing well because they're playing horrible teams is a bad one.
All of the aforementioned teams have winning records against the central, but the Mariners and Red Sox don't come close to approaching the winning percentage against the division that the Twins have.
Finally, based on the Twins against the West this year...based on the percentage they've won against the West this year...if they had played all of their AL Central games against West opponents and West games against Central opponents (essentially shifting them to the West and leaving the Central with 4 teams), their record would be 78-58. That's better than Boston, and right in the middle of the hunt. Ta-dow.
