Too much "retreats into the right corner" Boxers don't retreat all that much unless they are being pummelled.
Too much "protecting his body which is leaving his head vulnerable." Boxers rarely protect their body and leave their head open, unless they've been getting consistently hurt with body punches. Usually it's the other way around - they protect their head, leaving their body vulnerable.
Too much "misses with what looked like a backhand". This rarely happens. Most fouls are caused by punching low.
