Johnson Batters Mitchell For 11th Defense
October 6th, 1906
Jack Johnson (22-1) scored a UD15 over #2 Charley Mitchell (19-6) to retain the LBA title.
Johnson set the tone of the fight quickly, dropping Mitchell in the first. He bloodied Mitchell's nose in the 4th and dropped him again in the 6th. Mitchell started carrying his hands low in the 8th and his right eye started to swell due to a cut in the 9th. Johnson put it on cruise control from there and coasted to an easy victory.
I had it 148-137. Walt Arnold, ringside, had it 147-138. The official judges had it 148-136/149-137/147-138.
