Question Playing 1987. Will draft have 1988 players?

Except for iPad version, I haven't played since OOTP12, but I am back with OOTP20. I can't recall if the November draft will have real 1988 draftees or not -- and I can't recall if we still have to...

Traded players NOT going to minors

I've been playing since iOOTP11, and have always wondered why players I trade for get added to the active roster, not the minors -- despite the message saying that they have been sent to my minors.

Problem with lineup switch

About to play a game, but the lineups I selected are being overridden -- my backup catcher is about to play 2B (he is adequate there, but not nearly as good as my starting 2B).

I have set the game...

Sorry, Phillupi

I think I just did the forum equivalent of asking someone to google for them, by directing my question to the wrong poster.

Good idea

I would like to see this as an option.

Traditionalists can stick to MLB rules, but some of us running fantasy leagues would be happier occasionally making our own rules, and why not.

Trading is...

Phillupi, did Derek Jeter perform OK in the field, if you know?

That is, I wonder if the AI has some limit (in AI-managed teams) to how badly a player can field, to account for occasional roster...

Minor league decisions

I do not delegate minor league decisions because I do not trust the AI, Old Fat Bald Guy.

Specifically, I want to insure that my prospects get plenty of ABs and IPs, and play at the position they...

"assistant GM" needed?

If we play as "GM and manager," and make all decisions ourselves, is there any purpose to having an "assistant GM" hanging around and drawing salary?

Pinch hit or stay on the bench?

I'm a big OOTP fan, but not a big baseball fan, so I might be wrong in assuming that most real-life players do not hit as well when pinch hitting as they do when in the lineup.

If that assumption...

I am impressed

No one wrote: "if they have a 60% chance of winning each series, that's only a 21.6% chance of winning the WS. .75 * .66 *.6 = 29.7% in that situation which assumes increasing difficulty and a...

As a teenager in Georgia in the late 1950s-early-1960s, for whom late-night radio programs like Grand Old Opry, farm reports, WLAC, and West Virginia coal mine shift announcements opened up my world,...

Player development budget

The recent thread on player development -- very interesting and useful -- prompts me to ask for your sense of the importance of development budgets. Does extra money for development pay off, do you...

Why ticket-punch at AA?

I have had more than one amateur draftee go straight to the majors with success, players who have a "ready for the majors" starting on day one. I hope that happens again!

When you look at the menu under "play" . . .

. . . do you see one of the options to be something like "play until spring training begins" with a date?

Historical adjustments

Sorry if you already know this: I don't know about 1969, but from starting in the 1870s, I understand that we have to adjust our expectations of individual players according to the era-adjustment...

I am six years into a game with AAA and AA leagues, and would like to add an A league. I have just entered offseason.

Bad stuff happens

In my experience, only half paying attention, cold players can stay cold all season. Unless I have a cold superstar or no viable replacement, I try to avoid playing cold players. Minors or the bench....

9th inning errors

My teams (1871-1876 so far) commit more errors than tipsy Little Leaguers, but I can live with that.

Teams in this league often commit 9-10 errors a game (not counting PBs, WPs, and hit batsmen)....

Do players regress when on the bench?

In my league (currently 1876), some talented players on various teams get few or even zero plate appearances. You know, you have two guys who are excellent 2B, but have no other position rating.
