If "Casey at the Bat" was rewritten to make it so the pitcher had to throw it right down the middle at 80 MPH it wouldn't have been a very good story.

If the defense wants to line up all 7 of the defenders to one side of the infield they should be able to do so. It's the hitters job to hit it someplace else.
