Players on your active roster cannot be used to combinate with a CC card, since because they would disappear when used to combinate, that would mess up a player's active roster.

Yeah, I got confirmation on this: The game does treat the regular version and combinator version of the same player card as the same card, so hence why you got the 14-day cooldown.

I think - and I could be wrong - that's because the game believes it's the same Mondesi card, and/or shares the same name as him, so it wouldn't allow you to swap it out like that. I'll have to check...
