How do I get the game to stop this? It is doing it every few game days and it is taking somewhere around 5-8 minutes every time. It slows my sims massively!!

sounds like he is GM only so his manager and coaches are changing it on him. You have to become GM and Manager, then go to manager settings and put yourself in there to make the lineups and such.
