Function of sim waypoints?

Hi there, wondering what the sim waypoint system actually does. Is it just markers that show up on team schedules to denote the real world sim dates? Or does it in some way influence the in-game...

Oh I just took another look, found one that's quite close (14 divisional, 9 each vs other teams in same subleague, and 4 each vs all interleague teams), I think I'll just take that schedule instead...

I've been trying to use the schedule generator but it isn't working for the exact schedule I'm looking for so figured I'd ask here.

24 team league, split into 2 subleagues with 3 divisions of 4...

I was able to get past by doing the draft import, and then going on do not disturb mode and setting the Assistant GM to handle draft picks. Simmed one day and it was fine, then changed the settings...
