Do the angels trade him sign hi or let him walk? Do the mariners have a chance?

What are the offers ? But if they are not trading to improve team --- trade him .

Any team that signs Ohtani will cripple themselves for the next decade.

Seriously...sure..he has decent numbers...but a lifetime .272 average and .359 OBP isn't exceptional..and not significantly better than any good AAA hitter.

The MLB average slash line at the break is .248/.320/.410.

Shohei's is .302/.387/.663. And he pitches sorta nicely too.

That guy is two All Stars rolled into one. I see where he'd seek to be paid like them. Which doesn't mean I'll lobby teams to pay him $50M a year any time soon.

He's on a salary drive. This year's numbers are WAY higher than his career averages.

Prior to this year, his career average was .265

He's also 28..and will start his decline phase sooner than later.

You read it here first. His FINAL, career batting average will be in the Harmon Killebrew range.. .256.

Obviously he is outperforming his career line this year, he's been the best hitter in baseball this year by a comfortable margin, no one is consistently the best hitter in baseball.

I don't think comparing him to Harmon Killebrew as a hitter is the criticism you seem to think it is. HOF hitter who also is a top 20ish pitcher is about as good a starting place as you can get. If you think he simply can't be worth a big contract because the inherent injury risk, fair enough, but in terms of performance, I would feel a lot more comfortable with Ohtani than I did with Judge as far as still being an impact player in 5 years.

Mariners have a good chance of resigning him so I would give up 5 prospects including Gilbert Hancock and 3 others, and then sign him to a 10 year 600M contact.

I don't like Judge, either. His skill set won't age well, like Ohtani.

Angels best bet would be to trade him away for the best package they can get rather than letting the asset go for nothing.

This year looked promising to finally get to the playoffs but Trout was having a down season (for him) and then broke his wrist.

Trout breaking down is a completely normal season for him.

Given where Baltimore is in the (absolutely ridiculous) AL East, and the insane amount of prospect capital they have courtesy of tanking for 5 years, I think of them as a dark horse to grab him in a trade. I do not believe they would re-sign him, however.

It will be interesting for sure. If they don't go for it, it's hard to imagine when they would. They can't fit all of these prospects into their roster, Rule 5 draft looms large... I did say "dark horse..."


I mean I'd love for the Jays to nab him in a trade instead, but they just don't have the parts required to make the trade. Of course this is all moot if Moreno continues to declare that they aren't trading him.

I think everyone is seriously overrating what Ohtani's value is in trade. 2 months of any player, even the best player in baseball just isn't that valuable. Unless ownership interferes and decides they want to trade for Ohtani regardless of the cost, it will probably be a couple guys at the middle-back end of top 100 kind of package.

It's in the awkward spot where he is more valuable to the Angels right now that he is to other teams. Keeping him and making one last longshot run at the postseason and the small chance he might resign with the only MLB team he's ever played for might be more valuable than any trade package out there.

I bet someone will sell the ranch just because of his possible GOAT status and immense popularity.
