delete older version after importing to new?
 

Probably a silly question, but is it a good idea to delete OOTP18 after I have imported it into OOTP19 (for more space on my computer)?

Entirely up to you. If you're not playing 18 anymore, and disc space is at a premium, then by all means, delete 18.

Just make sure you have any/all custom logos, etc saved.

I would keep OOTP18 just in case you have any problems later with OOTP19.

My league in OOTP19 corrupted, so I am going back to OOTP18 to salvage the league.

Also copy your backup version to an external hard drive or flash drive just for a little more insurance.

At one point I had v 14-17 on one computer.

they don't interfere with each other.

that's not always the case for software.

I have versions back to 14 on my computer. As stated, if you hawk space issues, no problem to delete. You do not need 18 or before to play 19 at all.

That said, a couple of reasons it can be fun to have earlier versions: 1) If I were Markus, I would give everyone OOTP 14 for free and tell them he will refund their purchase of OOTP 19 (or 20) if they don’t think the extra money was worth it. It is astounding to go back and see, then realize how fast this game has improved. I wish I could see the game back in the early days like 3/4/5. Wow.

2) If you like playing “slightly” historical, a great thing is go back to like 14/15/16 and set up a game, then use each successive one to get it into OOTP 19 with all the current features. You have the accurate coaches, contracts, etc.

One note, I do save all of the builds through each version. I guess it is completely unnecessary to do so, but I would highly recommend at least keeping a couple of releases back as they go through the first few months of builds this spring. Many, many times, I went back and reloaded those.

My computer has really slowed down... it takes forever to do anything... I think the problem is not the computer... it's how much I have stored on it... I have OOTP12 through OOTP19 loaded on my computer... I have only 130 gbs left on a 1 terabyte computer... I think that is what's slowing down my 2-year-old computer.

Before I switched computers, I always kept all my OOTPs because I just wanted them all lined up in a row on my desktop lol. There's just something aesthetically pleasing about having 5 OOTP titles all lineup up

Yep, it's pretty on the desktop... but in my case, it almost completely filled my hard drive... just 100 or gbs out of 1,000, 000.

Really slowed my processor down.

Leaving previous versions installed is fine I guess if you have the HD space, which I don't think the OP does.

It's not like it's hard to reinstall a prior version if needed.

unless you are counting MB on a 1tb or larger drive, it's not the hdd -- unless it is failing.

check hdd/ssd is easy -- get a free software like crystaldiskinfo. it can access teh SMART features of the drive -- they universally have these features. if it says good or some high %, all things are fine. SSD will show %, e.g. after 6-7 years mine's at 90-some% still.

** SSD may work more optimally with some space open. older it is probably the more important this is. i think mine from ~2012ish was recommending ~25% left open? i'm regularly above and below that line with no ill-effects noticed.

i have a 1tb second drive that has been upto 99% filled, but it is not the 'system' drive, so it's not running windows/OS etc.

drives are storage only, they have little to do with the running of any software beyond loading it into RAM, so if the drives aren't failing any SMART inidcators, all is well for sure on that front.

have you installed anything lately? especially a AV program (antivirus). these are mostly a security blanket that provides little to no security.

if you don't do dangerous things with your pc, switch up to one that runs when you call it... not one that runs 24/7. once a month run the program and that's it. i doubt you'll ever see anythign of note, unless downloading from nefarious souces or 'media players' to watch what you can watch for free and without dangerous malisious software being installed :p etc...

it also eats up RAM. type "taskman" in windows search and load task manager up -- check performance tab. as long as RAM isn't ~90% used while doing what you do, RAM is okay as far as amount.

more ram is unused ram, but you don't want to be using 100%, either. 3/4ths used max is a threshold i stick to, but ignor on occasion. heat can become a problem amongst other things that could cause a program to just shutdown out of the blue while using it, or the PC to restart.

while task man is up, i'd sort by memory useage and look for any culprits. if mem useage isn't a visible column by default, you can add it through the menu at top. then, once sorted look for any large memory things running, if oyu don't recognize the name, google it... unneeded? google "how do i turn off XXXX service or feature".

there are memtesters (for RAM) out there too... i'd stick to a microsoft produced one, if yo go that route... do not use any old memtest. the safe ones will do some sort of scan at bootup, most likely. maybe they are more user-friendly now?

if you clean up some unneccessary services and apps running in background, that should be the culprit of most slowdowns.

i have a pc that's 7+ years old (omg, is it 8+? how old am i, now?!?!). i'm in the same boat. i recently upgraded the GPU and forced me to Win10. at bootup, the PC is using ~1.3-1.5GB of my 8GB of RAM at idle. that's only after i chopped things down. after initial installation it was 2.1GB and higher. if you only have 4GB of RAM, an extra ~500MB freed up can be very helpful.

I removed OOTP12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17... leaving only OOTP18 and 19.

My computer is working great now... I cleared out about 500 gigabytes from the hard drive.

older versions around for importing and bringing forward old saves...and sometimes just to see how far we've come. OOTP 8 seems so very simple compared to today's game. I do only keep 1 set of unit, parks, & logos.
