Historical-Fictional Questions

Hey guys, so took some information provided in another thread and have finally gotten my HF league started. I'm noticing some weird stuff and would like some help figuring out what is going on...

1. I filled rosters four times, releasing to FA pool each time to create a pool of about 1500 players; it came out to 80 rounds for the inaugural FA draft. I have MLB, AAA, AA and A turned on. However, right after the season started (I'm quick simming about 10 years to build a history), I noticed many teams were down to 29 players on their rosters, with four in AAA and none in AA or A. In the Transaction logs all players were released by the team.

2. I'm also noting an unusual amount of players that are/were starters going to free agency because teams are not resigning them. There is also a TON of players available as free agents but nobody is signing them up to bolster their farm systems.

Any idea what might be transpiring and what adjustments I can make to address these concerns? I'm currently unemployed so all teams are set to AI control.

Oh, major issue, the draft pool is not populating. No clue why. I can pull up the draft, it's set for 12 rounds, but no players are listed.

By chance you don't have some very strict roster limits set do you? What year are you starting? Did you check the financials going in? Do teams have any money?

As for the draft, I'm wondering if you have the button to import historical rookies(real players) unchecked? If so and still not getting any fictional rookies created, do you have the game set to create a certain number of players for the draft? I see you say the draft is set for 12 rounds, is it set to create enough players for 12 rounds as well?

what year(s) are you using as your historical basis?

Starting in 1960 with the goal of simming 10 years before I start.

Import historical/real is unchecked; I wanted full fictional players.

I do not see any options anywhere else other than to set the draft to on and the number of rounds. So that may be the problem, where would I find that setting?

There is no salary cap or anything set so there shouldn't be a limit there.

Started in 1960, there was expansion by four teams the first year.

Under the rules menu--Amateur Draft Settings. You should see enable Amateur draft. Use Predefined draft value for AI. And then Amateur Draft Date. Next you should see Amateur Draft number of Rounds. Right below this it should say Generate players for X Rounds.

Now if you aren't seeing the Generate players for X Rounds, go to the historical menu and under Historical Rookies Settings, make sure the box for Automatically import historical Rookies is unchecked. When that box is checked, the Generate players for X Rounds is not available.

Thanks David. It's strange. It's greyed out. So I went and restarted another time and ensured that it was enabled. I also have the import real historical turned off. Again, ensured that the Enable Amatuer Draft was on. I get to the draft spot and no players are in the draft list and the enable draft is now "unchecked" and greyed out (can't change except in preseason). So no clue what is going on.

I checked this during league setup/creation. I checked it again after creation and then again after deleting all the real players and generating fictional players and running the initial free agent draft. It was checked all three times.

So here's the preseason shot showing it is turned on, yet no players were generated the first year and no players were drafted.

Try changing the date to June. The default for historical leagues is in December, but fictional leagues are in June.

David Watts 05-11-2017 09:25 AM

This one has me stumped

That added in a new ammy draft date. But still, no players generated for the draft.

This is really screwed up Marcus & Co.

Ragin Cajun 05-11-2017 09:31 AM

Checked the bug forum and this has already been reported so I'm not the first to see this.

David Watts 05-11-2017 09:32 AM

Can you do a screen shot of the historical page, like you did the rules?

Ragin Cajun 05-11-2017 09:34 AM

So someone on another sight seems to recall that OOTP will NOT generate fictional players in a historical league.

So, if you want real teams you have to take the long way and edit each individual team name/logo etc in a Fictional league? That just can't be right on an 18th edition release.

Not generating fictional players in a historical league would be something new. I've done this in the past and it worked fine.

David Watts 05-11-2017 09:40 AM

You didn't by chance create this using historical minor leagues did you? Sorry, I'm grasping at straws now. I'm at work. Really wish I had the game in front of me.

No, real minors was disabled. I appreciate you looking. I'm trying one more thing now to see if that affects it.

Really hope you get this figured out. Haven't played this way in a while, but it's something I've enjoyed in the past. I would hate to see it go away due to a bug.

Ragin Cajun 05-11-2017 09:49 AM

And, that didn't fix it either. I went to League Settings/Players and changed the default fictional generated ages to 17/23 (Min/Max) while the default was 0/0. No luck though, still no players generated.

Well, any other ideas if anyone can test this or look at it would be appreciated.
