Linux testers needed!

Hey guys,

if anyone of you has a machine that runs Linux and is interested to join the beta team in order to test a native Linux version of OOTP 9, please email steve.battisti@ootpdevelopments.com :) Our code library allows real linux applications without much hassle, so we're in the process of creating one, but it needs testing before being released to the public. So, if you're interested and want to grab a free copy, please contact Steve :D

Thanks!!
Markus

I'm interested in testing OOTP 9 for Linux, but my email to Steve was rejected by the domain. I run a Ubuntu 8.04 installation, and I would LOVE a free copy of the game in exchange for testing it.

We're not gonna get many Linux testers that way! ;)

I'm volunteering. OOTP works reasonably well under WINE, but I'd love a native port.

I'm very interested in helping out in any way that I can and I've sent an e-mail to Steve already. It would be a great accomplishment to get OOTP 9, one of the best PC games onto linux, the best OS. I have experience with quite a few different linux distros but my distro of choice is currently Xubuntu 8.04; PCLinux OS would be a close second. I'm currently running a dual-boot setup with XP SP3 and Xubuntu 8.04. I use windows for gaming and graphics apps, and linux for everything else. What's everybody else here running? Just curious.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04, but it's Openbox on top of a command-line install instead of the full Gnome environment. Nice 'n' speedy on my old 2.4ghz Pentium 4 with 1.5gb of RAM.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and openSuse 11.0. Linux is the best PC OS by far.

OOTP for Linux is a good idea. I'll help test it. Will email Steve today.

Between the desktop I run Ubuntu on, I have a few Virtual Box installs as well.

Anyway, email sent

Wow, Ubuntu seems to be quite popular here eh? Not without due cause though considering it's the most popular distro out there. I'd be willing to throw another distro on here if necessary to test under different kernels.

I thought it was determined a while back that there wouldn't be a version of OOTP for Linux because there was no way to copy protect it on Linux. Did I miss something?

Apparently.

You can do a kind of copy protection with Linux. For example, Linux Game Publishing puts an Internet- and password-based game copy protection system on their new games.. I'm guessing that Linux OOTP will do something similar.
