QD 1850 Mod

Has anyone gotten QuestDogs 1850 names and nations to work in v19?

I keep getting errors. His work on this should not be going to waste!

FYI: This and many other files can be found at:

With OOTP 18, I believe his versions of these files were officially incorporated into the game:
  • QD_ethnicities.txt
  • 2000_first_names.txt
  • 2000_names.txt
As of OOTP 19, the files in question still appear to be his Questdog's files, although they have some additions/corrections. The latest official world_default.xml file seems to be a much different (and much larger) file than Questdog's, so his version may not be in the game. Not sure exactly what this file is for, and he doesn't appear to be active on the forums lately.

Need more information:
  • What sort of errors are you getting?
  • How are you incorporating the namesets into the game?
  • Are you replacing an existing nameset or are you adding these to the existing name files?
  • Are you making any changes in-game or to the world_default.xml file?

Hi Joe,
Sorry, but somehow I missed this response. I think some of the issue was getting the world_xml to work right. That and the fact that I am on and off the computer too much and life gets in the way. I wasn't sure if the names that are incorporated with the game were era appropriate. That was my main focus, and still might be. We've had so many updates, that I may have overwritten something.

I'm pretty sure Questdog's 1850 nameset wasn't incorporated into the standard OOTP name files, so you'd have to do that yourself. I'm not sure how you'd handle the transition from "old" names to modern names. You might be better off using the in-game nation editor rather than fooling around with the world_default.xml file.

Hi Joe,
If I recall when using it in 17 and/or 18, it was only a matter of updating the names with the in game function. I usually add a ~ symbol to the "names" file, so that I have a quick visual on who is a fictional player. It's not very obstructive and the PBP ignores it. His instructions had a couple of years to perform this as he had some other years with files for.

The names will still work, but they changed the layout of the world_default.xml, so those will not work from my old name sets.

Hi Questdog,

I believe there is a post on what needs to be done to update the old xml file for v19. Unless there was another change for v20
