Who is your favorite historical player that nobody knows?

The history of baseball is littered with players that could have been great but for one reason or another he doesn't pan out. A generation or two, no body has heard of him.

I was doing a historical sim starting in 1952, because that's the year my dad was born, with my Pirates and came across a young 19 year old named Ron Necciai. He had an amazing stuff rating. I thought, "who is this guy and why is he rated so high?" I looked at his real life stats page and saw he only had one MLB season. I searched him on google and this guy struck out 27 batters in one game in the minors in 1952! He had health issues that prevented him from continuing his career.

So what are some other interesting players across the ages?

A side question, How do you import a historical player into your game. I see the option under create fictional player but when I click it, I don't know what file to choose and where it is.

I have always related to catcher Bill Bergen, the worst hitter in "modern" baseball history. He must have been a great catcher to make up for his horrible offense.

Definitely Doug Million. He went 20-0 one season and had at least 5000 strikeouts--although that didn't mean much in a sim featuring a Curt Schilling with over 8000.

One of the best things about playing OOTP is when you have an historical league, you can "discover" players like Ron Necciai.

The 1920-1922 St.Louis Browns had some great players that no one has ever heard of... Ken Williams, Dixie Davis, Baby Doll Jacboson, Urban Shocker, Hub Pruet, Elam VanGilder

When you choose "Add Historical Player," you select the "Master.csv" file. You have to know what season you want to import. The other options are pretty self explanatory. One more thing, the player naming system... first five letters of the last name, first two letters of the first name, then "01." It gets tricky because different players have the same first five letters of the last name and first two letters of the first name. The oldest player is 01, then the next oldest is 02, etc. To make sure I get the right player, I usually locate the "Master.csv" file and open it with a "text edit app" and determine the player I want from the data in the file (birth date, nickname, etc.)

Baseball was clearly the wrong choice for this guy. He belongs in the NFL.
