Mike Alvarado's reign as IBO JWW king turned out to be a short one as Lanardo "Pain Server" Tyner lived up to his nickname & took Mike's belt via a 15 round majority decision: 144-142, 143-143 & 145-143.

Tyner just seemed faster beating Mike to the punch most of the fight & winning the PL battle: 353 to 327.

The only KD occurred in the 13th when an uppercut from Tyner sent Mike to the canvas for a 6 count.

Mike was making his 2nd title defense.

In a shocking outcome, Kelly Pavlik somehow escaped with a 15 SD to take the WBC SMW belt from Micheal Nunn in his 1st defense.

A bout that was pretty boring for most of the night had drama in the 15th when a left hook sent Nunn to the canvas for a 9 count (the only KD of the fight). At the time it seemed it would only bring Kelly a little closer in judges scoring. That actually turned out to decide the fight as Pavlik won 143-142 on 2 cards & the other had Nunn up 144-142.

Nunn had the PL edge 390 to 218 & also the accuracy edge 36% to 18%.

Nunn falls to 9-3 & Pavlik improves to 7-0 with 6 KO's @ 168.

For some reason Curtis Stevens didn't train as hard as he could have for his 1st title shot (coming in soft), in the end it didn't matter as he took the WBA MW belt in a dramatic fight in Scotland.

Craig McEwan, making his 4th defense, looked to be in control early as his reach, size & boxing ability gave the shorter Curtis problems early in the fight. In fact in the 1st round, Craig really went after the American challenger & appeared close to stopping Stevens.

Things changed in the 6th when a combo both hurt & dropped the champ for a count of 9. Then in the 7th, Curtis caught the champ again - this time with his powerful left hook & a 7 count.

In the 8th, a desperate McEwan (his endurance gone) went after Stevens & won the round. He appeared to stem the tide & went after Curtis again in the 9th - going for the all out KO.

Early in the round it was working but then Stevens came back, took the offensive & a rib shot ended the bout @ 2:56 of the 9th!

Stevens is now 7-0 (6 KO's) @ 160 & McEwan suffers his 1st defeat - falling to 16-1-1.

McEwan had the edge in PL: 233 to 208 & 2 judges had Stevens up (77-75 & 78-74) & the 3rd had McEwan winning 76-75.

The WBC MW title became vacant when WBC/IBO champ, Roberto Santos, chose a unification bout with the IBF champ over defending his belt.

Mandatory challenger, Gennady Golovkin, traveled to Canada to face former WBC champ, Michael Olajide.

Despite the fact Olajide landed an incredible 88% of his punches, GGG controlled the action & dropped MO 3 times over the 1st 9 rounds. A final right cross ended matters @ 2:51 of the 10th. GGG was up 273 to 192 in PL & on all 3 cards: 87-83 & 88-82 twice.

GGG is now the MW WBC champ with a record of 16-0, 11 KO's.

Hot rising prospect Vanes Martirosyan (17-0, 14 KO's) appeared in control early in his WBO JMW title shot. Vanes had dropped defending champ Sechew Powell with a left hook in the 3rd but a punch out of nowhere in the 8th caught Vanes & ended the fight @ the 2:19 mark.

Vanes was up 67-65 on 2 cards (66-66 on the 3rd) but Powell had the PL & accuracy edges: 172 to 144 & 45% to 26%.

It was Powell's 3rd title defense & he improves to 22-2 with 11 KO's.

Christophe Tiozzo's decision to jump to CW looked like a good one for the 1st 2 rounds as he both out boxed & out quicked the IBF champ, Kelvin Davis. Davis got down to business in the 3rd & his power took over - dropping the Frenchman with a combo, uppercut & a massive left hook to end the fight @ 2:22.

It was Kelvin's 5th defense, he's now 20-1 & is 2-0 vs. the Tiozzo family. Davis knocked out Fabrice in 9 rounds to win the IBF crown.

Tim Bradley's reign as WBO JWW champ came to an end @ the hands of Brandon Rios via a 15UD. Rios won the PL battle 344 to 320 but dominated on the scorecards: 147-135, 144-138, 145-137. The constant pressure by Rios gave the champ problems & Bradley hit the deck 3 times over the 15 round distance.

Tim is now 11-1 @ 140 - he also lost via decision in his bid to take the WBO WW crown from Selcuk Aydin earlier this year.

In what was supposed to be a stay busy title defense, K-9 Bundrage traveled to Poland to face Pawel Wolak.

K-9 came in out of shape & nobody told Wolak this was supposed to be an easy defense for the IBF champ as he took it to American. Pawel, the constant aggressor, dropped K-9 with a combo for an 8 count in the 3rd & finished him with a hook @ 2:12 of the 5th.

K-9 is now 13-1 with 12 KO's.

IBO JMW champ Travis Simms took care of business dispatching the hard punching Saul Roman with a TKO in 2 rounds.

Simms improves to 20-2-2.

Thanks for the questions/interest Bob. Overall, Manny is 26-3-1 with 24 KO's & that's from FW to WW. His record @ JMW is now 5-1-1.

Floyd is 42-6-3 with 26 KO's from JLW to WW & 4-1-3 @ JMW. His draws are to Manny, Oscar & Julio Cesar Vasquez. His loss is to JC too.

At this point no because Manny lost his WBO JMW belt by SD to Sechew Powell earlier this year & Floyd only wants to fight big fights with a belt on the line.

No, Pac & Marquez never happened - I try to stay clear of fights that actually happened. Manny's most impressive fight may have been when he won the WBC LW crown from Joel Casamayor. He dropped Joel 5 times, was up 437 to 249 in PL & 137-123, 137-124 & 136-124 on the scorecards & stopped Joel with a TKO @ 1:07 of the 15th. Joel was 8-0 @ 135 @ the time & never the same in my uni after that beating from Manny.

Morales might return in 2014 - he was my WBC JWW champ until a 3rd round TKO loss to Lovemore N'dou when Erik threw a punch, hurt his hand & quit in the 3rd. He'd also maybe torn a muscle in the 2nd. Seemed realistic, an aging fighter where is body is starting to break down.

yeah I was surprised @ how soundly Manny beat Joel.

Morales had a solid career - won my WBC JFW belt & made 3 defenses. At JLW, Erik won the WBC belt & made 4 defenses before being DQed in a title defense. He stopped Freddie Roach in 4 on the comeback trail & then knocked out Diego Corrales in 1 round to win the IBF JLW belt. He lost that title when JM Marquez took the belt with a 5th round cut.

Yes, the JMW weight class is my favorite one & I'll keep you posted on any Manny/Money changes.

Devon Alexander's 3rd defense of his IBF WW belt in Argentina turned into quite a slug fest. Devon had hoped to out box Hector David Saldivia but Hector's aggressive style eventually forced Devon to stand & trade. After Hector controlled the early rounds, Devon started sitting down on his punches which paid off with 3 KD's. In the 9th, a combo ended Hector's night & title bid.

Devon was up slightly, 244-236 in the PL tally but Hector landed 46% of his shots to Devon's 39%.

2 judges had Devon up 76-74 while the 3rd had it tied @ 75.

Austin Trout moves to 11-0 with (6 KO's) & won the WBA JMW belt with a 5th round cut TKO over Antonio Margarito.

Not much happened in those 5 rounds as AM falls to 9-3 @ 154. All 3 losses due to cuts - he lost his WBC belt in the summer to Milton McCrory due to a butt/cut & lost a 10 Tech Dec.

In the latest version of the Battle of Britain, Herbie Hide finally got a title shot & made the most of it!

WBC CW champ, David Haye, appeared in control most of the early rounds - aside from a left hook that dropped the champ in the 2nd for a count of 7. Eventually Hide's powerful shots appeared to weaken the younger, taller champ & a right cross dropped Haye again for a 5 count in the 8th. At that point Hide would not be denied & the ref waved the fight off @ 2:36.

A close fight on the cards, 2 had it tied @ 66 & the 3rd had Haye up 67-66. Haye was also up on PL 206 to 184 - the champ landing 49% of his punches.

Hide improves to 12-0, 12 KO's & Haye suffers his 2nd defeat, now with a record of 20-2.
