2019 NBA off season thread
Guess we'll get it started of w/this.........
Orleans trades AD to LA for Lakers 2019 1st rd pick, 2 other 1st rd picks, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart & Brandon Ingram. |
Cute how the NBA gave baseball one day to it's self.

its crazy to me that David Griffin didnt give the AD/Jrue/Zion a chance
I guess AD lost respect with his teammates pretty badly this season? |

If his answer was anything other than yes I imagine they had something already close to completion and then finished it out. If he still does not want to be there after Zion and a new front office then nothing will make him want to be there. Better to cash in now then let him walk a year from now for nothing. |

The only way the Lakers salvage this trade is if they sign Kawhi Leonard. LBJ, AD, and the Claw would make LA the faves to win the title next season.

More realistic is that they go after Middleton or Brogdon. Giving max or close to a max for Brogon I think would be great for them. Super efficient offensive player. Not great but at least tries on defense. And mature enough to be able to handle being in Lebrons orbit. If I was a professional basketball player, James would be great to play with on the same court for 48 minutes. But everything else that comes with it would never make me never want to be on the same team. From the sub tweets to the behind the scenes manipulation. Just not my style. AD seems to have a pretty submissive personality so I think he will be okay there. |
After the first two picks I am lost with this years draft.
Unlike some of this forum I am not very high on Barrett. There will be some great players out of this draft that we will look back at and think 'how did teams not see this guy with their pick?" But anyone who claims to know who will be be a great player after the first 2 or 3 picks is full of ****. |
The Dime Drop has some very nice in depth scouting videos on the draft.
Anyway, after this AD trade, I think the Lakers are slotted for something like a top 2 seed in the west. Houston doesnt have the means to keep all of their guys, GS is out of the top 2 convo completely… the only true challenger I see at the moment who are prepared to contend is OKC. everyone else is a free agent or a young guy making the leap away from contending |

I'm discounting Denver a bit because Jamaal Murray is a bit spotty, but they have the horses to stop the Lakers' current front court.
Portland's current roster has a mediocre chance to beat Bron/AD/Kuzma/replacement levels, but I have my doubts because of all the all star quality backcourts this decade, (DeRozan/Lowry, CP3/Harden, Wall/Beal, Curry/Klay, Dame/CJ) the only one to make the Finals has been Curry/Klay, and even without KD, they still had a good forward in Green to propel them. If they can get Nurkic back to form, maybe they have a chance, but they dont have the space to resign Kanter, so they'll need Meyers Leonard or Zach Collins to make a leap. |

That I can say with any degree of certainty? Two After two I think there will be good NBA talent but I don’t know who they are and I don’t think many draft experts know other. The teams themselves have a little bit more to go on from interviews and private workouts. But even they are just taking chances after pick #2 Outside the top two picks I think the best bet is for someone like the Hawks who have six picks. They will not keep them all and will make trades to move up to take someone they like or for future picks. But the more dice rolls the better. The international crop in this class is weak as well. Only two internationals I see as first round talents. 10 years down the line we could see many good players from this draft. It’s just that it’s hard to see them right now. |
Re the LA/NO trade, seems like a win/win at the moment, but - as they say - only time will tell...
The Lakers need to fill out their roster. Figure it's a good chance that they land a B+ or A- talent (Kemba Walker or Jimmy Butler, someone at that level) to go with LBJ & AD, and that would be a pretty good core. But they will still need 4 or 5 other solid role players (who will need to come in on the cheap). And regardless, with the draft picks they have given up to get AD, they will absolutely be in the "Must Win Title Now" mode. Anything else will be a disaster because it's a short window with LeBron, and there will be no draft picks coming for the next several years. As for NO, great haul of draft picks, etc., when they pretty much knew there was nobody else seriously bidding for AD. |

Memphis gets back...not a lot... They waited way too long to trade him |
