Jim Fregosi 1961
2 Attachment(s)
It's not that there's a shortage of images of Jim Fregosi as a Met. It's just that they all suck (imo), for one reason or another. Yeah, I bought the big 8x10, but the clarity and color balance fall short (imo). There's the yearbooks, a "fan pack" shot, a couple of shadowy drjteeee offerings, a few baserunning shots on Getty, a seriously discolored Kyles snap, another 8x10 where Jim's eyes are closed. I could go on. And, previously, the Vault has only given us the two images they used in the 1972 Topps set. So it was nice to see a couple of clear previously unused Vault images of Jim with N.Y. in their latest set of offerings. Good stuff.

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...4046&page=1586 With some great help from forum and other colleagues, it appears the answer to my original mystery is in fact Pete Varney and not Rick Reichardt. Stoddard autograph or not. Just sayin'.... |

Ralph Garcia 1972
2 Attachment(s)
Ralph Garcia was a 11 game big leaguer in 2 brief stops with the 1972 and 1974 Padres. The UNLV product was out of affiliated ball after the 1975 season. Yet, here he appears in the TV release on E-Bay with the White Sox in 1978....I would be interested to learn a little more about this...he wasn't pitching in any league per baseball reference after 1975 but ended up in the White Sox camp a few seasons after his last pitch with the Alexandria Aces (Padres AA team) in 1975

Rich Folkers - Mets part II - UIN 1970
2 Attachment(s)
Behold! The power of Topps Vault, who finally released some images of Rich after tossing 29+ innings with a 6.44 in his debut for the Gothams.
To me, having pics like this come to light always drive me over to baseball-reference for some knowledge. Today's re-education was that Rich was part of a 4 v 4 deal with St Louis in the fall of '71. This included the Mets sending St Louisan Art Shamsky back home to the Gateway City, with Art's fellow area standout - Harry Parker - heading out East. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...rs#post4213775 |
Ralph Garcia With White Sox
From the Chicago Tribune of April 6, 1978:
"The White Sox started spring training with 59 invited bodies in camp, meaning 34 of them couldn't make the 25-man-limit opening day roster. Here is how, and when they departed: March 7 - Pitcher Ralph Garcia returned to Juarez of the Mexican League; ....." |

Al Barker 1871

Also pictured with 1869 Rockford, Barker is mostly pictured in civilian clothes so this is a nice image of him in full uniform.

Pictured with 1869 Rockford, Hastings always seemed to find a team to play for despite being an average player.
