Lights, Camera, Action! A Fictional Character Baseball Dynasty
I'm new to the forums, but not new to the OOTP game. I've tried and failed at two separate dynasties. However, this is this one seems to be working out for me so far.
After being partially inspired by a thread I read once (forget the name), I thought of how cool it would be to put some of film and television's best characters into an OOTP dynasty. And thus, the Legion of California was born. The Legion of California is a 10-team league completely composed of fictional (male) movie and television characters. I had a role in rating the characters, mostly based on their importance as well as their athletic ability. I then held a draft between the teams. The season is 155 games long, culminating in a 4 team, best-of 5 tournament. There is no minor league, so injuries and fatigue are set to low. Relievers are used sparingly, much less then modern MLB levels. If you want a notable character represented that I left out, please name the character and I will put them into the next draft. The teams, all based close to Los Angeles, are as follows: Code:
1. Anaheim Tourists So, without rambling on, here it is: LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! First up, the team previews...more info to come -the weatherman |
Anaheim Tourists
Anaheim Tourists
Manager: Stephen Speilberg Preview: The Tourists seem to be a middle of the road team. They have a fast but powerful offense led by Maxiums (Gladiator) and Forrest Gump (Forrest Gump). Speed is seen in shortstop Angus MacGyver (MacGyver), who will be in contention for the stolen bases title along with the aforementioned Gump. The rotation also seems strong, led by Harry Callahan (Dirty Harry) and James T. Kirk (Star Trek). The playoffs will be in sight, but will be difficult to reach due to their weak bullpen. Burbank Tycoons
Manager: Clint Eastwood Preview: The Tycoons have a lot of money, and they're not afraid to use it. Their pitching staff is strong, including John Rambo (Rambo series), Charles Kane (Citizen Kane), and Jaques Clouseau (The Pink Panther), arguably the league's most dominant closer. The Tycoon's offense has a good balance of power and speed, with Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean series) and Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) leading the charge. I have a strong feeling that this is a championship-caliber team, but they might have some trouble with chemistry. Prediction: 2nd place Roster: Code:

Compton Rappers
Compton Rappers
Manager: Ice Cube Preview: There's no doubt that the Rappers have one of the best offenses in the league. Stars of the offense include second baseman James Bond, catcher Voldemort (Harry Potter series), first baseman Danny Ocean (Ocean's 11), and outfielder Chewbacca (Star Wars). Their pitching is also high-class, but lacking in the bullpen area. Notable pitchers include Gordon Gecko (Wall Street) and Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird). With a stronger bullpen, I would easily put this team in first. However, I think that the Rapper's weak bullpen will hurt their chances of a championship. Midseason trades will be crucial. Prediction: 3rd place Roster: Code:

I was expecting the Compton Rappers to include Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Easy E.:D
One can only hope that Lord Voldemort gets crossed up on a pitch, takes one to the chest, and an Avada Kedavara spell back at his closer and finally takes care of Jar Jar Binks for good. ;) But this looks interesting, so I'll be following along! |
East Los Angeles Dreamers
East Los Angeles Dreamers
Manager: Christopher Nolan Preview: The Dreamers hopes of a championship this year can be found right in their nickname- they can only dream that they will go all the way this year. The Dreamers are under interesting circumstances. They have the league's best player, shortstop Harry Potter, but their next best thing is borderline-star second baseman Clark Kent (Superman). Pitching and defense are among the worst in the league. The Dreamers need to look ahead to this year's draft, where they will likely have the first or second pick. Prediction: 10th place Roster: Code:

Glendale Animators
Glendale Animators
Manager: Christopher Nolan Preview: The Animators are arguably the best pitching/defense team in the league. The pitching staff is dominant, including starters Norman Bates (Psycho), Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and Han Solo (Star Wars). The bullpen sports relievers Lex Luthor (Superman) and Auric Goldfinger (James Bond), and closer Ace Ventura. That being said, the offense is nothing special, with center fielder Indiana Jones being the only standout player. The overall team is middle-class, but can be better with the acquisition of better hitters later this year in the draft. Prediction: 5th place Roster: Code:

I like this idea - I will be following...
I actually thought of doing something similar, only with different characters of a particular actors. Say, a team full of Clint Eastwood characters... A team full of Morgan Freeman characters... etc... |
