Running the Braves: 2018 and Beyond
 

Before the season begins some moves needed to be made. Two areas of weakness for this Braves team is their lack of bullpen depth and their weak bench.

Three trades were made:

Traded 30-year-old reliever Rex Brothers to the Tampa Bay Rays, getting 35-year-old reliever Sergio Romo in return.

Traded 30-year-old center fielder Peter Bourjos to the Kansas City Royals, getting 28-year-old closer Kelvin Herrera in return.

Traded 28-year-old second baseman Christian Colon to the Baltimore Orioles, getting 31-year-old first baseman Pedro Alvarez in return.

All three players acquired are in the final year of their contract giving the Braves some flexibility after the season but limits their flexibility this season when it comes to taking on any more money. Herrera is making $7.9 million this year.
