At the 12:17, John-Michael Liles would strike again on the powerplay, scoring his second goal of the game, to give the Avalanche a 2-0 lead heading into the second period. It would be at the 17:05 mark of the second where things got a little scary for the Avalanche as Pavel Datsyuk would score his first goal of the game on the PP and his second goal on the PP at the 18:29 mark to tie this game up going into the third! The third period seen nothing change, no penalties. We began overtime and the hometown erupted early as only 4:17 into the period Milan Hejduk would snipe home the game winner and ending the game with a 4-3 win. Avalanche Lead Series 2-1 Game Four: The tension was seen in this one, as the first period seen no scoring, but a lot of hitting and penalties (mostly on the side of Detroit) So we had a scoreless first going into the second. We finally seen the goal light lit, as Paul Kariya scores on the PP to give the Avalanche the 1-0 lead. Detroit knew they had to get on the board before the third and that they did at the 15:55 mark of the second when Nicklas Lidstrom fired home his 5th of the playoffs to even the game up at 1-1 heading into the 3rd. Avalanche fans were on their toes most of this period, but finally the tie would be broken as Peter Forsberg would score 13:32 into the period to give his team the 2-1 lead. The tension continued on the side of Detroit as Jiri Hudler would take a bad slashing penalty, and allow the Avalanche to score on the power play by Jamie Langenbrunner to get Colorado a 3-1 lead with only 2:30 left in the game! The Avalanche would see Steve Konowalchuk kicked from the game with a 2min cross-checking penalty and 10min game misconduct at the 17:58 mark of the third. At the 18min mark though, Peter Forsberg would score his second goal of the game short handed to give the Avalanche a commanding 4-1 lead. Henrik Zetterberg would score on the PP 41 seconds later, but that would be it as the Avalanche would take game four 4-2. Avalanche Lead Series 3-1 Game Five: Returning home Detroit hoped to get back into this series. They would have to wait, as the first period would end scoreless. The second period did not fair well for the home team this time as at the 7:10 mark of the second, Teemu Selanne would score the first goal of the game to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead on the road. 16:26 seen another goal, this time from Jamie Langenbrunner as Colorado would take a commanding 2-0 lead as the period ended. Detroit would see their run fading even more at the 8:57 mark of the third, as Teemu Selanne would score his second goal of the game on the PP to up the score to 3-0. Jamie Langenbrunner would also score on the PP for his second of the game at the 11:05 mark to give the Avalanche a 4-0 lead and would be the final of the game. The Avalanche would strike again, this time Short-Handed as the 14:02 mark by Steve Konowalchuk as the Colorado Avalanche take a 2-0 lead into the second period. The Avalanche continued their domination over the Flyers as they would score 2:18 into the period by Peter Forsberg. Forsberg would strike again at the 5:44 mark but on the PP to give Colorado a commanding 4-0 lead. If things couldn't get any worse for Philly, Rob Blake would score on the PP for the Avalanche to give them a 5-0 Lead heading to the third period. At this point, after two periods Philly has taken 11 penalties, Joni Pitkanen and David Printz ejected from the game. They'll need to focus on that headed into the third and throughout this series. The third seen 3 more penalties added to Philly and no scoring as Avalanche make easy work of game one with a 5-0 win. Avalanche Leads Series 1-0 Game Two: Avalanche continued their dominance from last game as 11:21 into the period Rob Blake would score the opening goal on the PP. Not long after Blake's goal, Peter Forsberg would score at the 14:58 mark to give the Avalanche a 2-0 lead late into the period. The Flyers would score their first goal of the series as the 18:05 mark by Jeff Carter on the PP to bring them within one going into the second period down 2-1. (Both teams took 4 penalties) The Flyers would show life scoring their second goal short-handed at 6:27 by Patrick Sharp as they tie the game up at 2-2. The tie didn't last long as Peter Forsberg would score his second goal of the game on the PP to give the Avalanche the 3-2 Lead. (PHI took 4/5 of the penalties in the period) Rob Blake would get the lone goal of the third period to sweep the two games on the road against the Flyers with a final score of 5-2. Avalanche Leads Series 2-0 Game Three: Avalanche dominated the first two games and looked to win game three, but this time at home. Philly wouldn't make it easy as only 14 seconds into the first, Mike Knuble would score on the PP to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Avalanche wouldn't take long to even the score, as Joe Sakic would tie things up at the 5:39 mark and it would stay tied going into the second period. (Blake took the penalty at 0:03 of the period for Colorado | Phi only had 1 penalty) The second period seen Philly strike twice as at the 2:36 mark Todd Fedoruk would make it 2-1 and at the 4:56 mark, Daniil Markov would score the second goal of the period to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead going into the third. (Philly had the only 3 penalties of the period) Rob Blake would score one for the Avalanche, but that would be the only goal of the period as the Flyers hold on to the 3-2 Victory and trail only one game back of Colorado in the series now. Avalanche Leads Series 2-1 Game Four: The Flyers were able to stike first again as Mike Knuble makes it 1-0 only 4mins into the game and would stand to be the only goal of the period, as the Flyers would head into the second with the lead. (PHI had 2/6 of the Penalties in the period) The second period seen much of the same, as the Flyers made it 2-0 3mins into the period with a PP goal by Jeff Carter that would stand heading into the third! (Avalanche are victims of taking to many penalties now as they took the only 5 that period) The Avalanche would finally show some life 5:04 into the third as John-Michael Liles scores to bring the Colorado Avalanche within one. The Flyers would hold on to the 2-1 win and they've even up the series sweeping the 2 games on the road bringing this to a best of three series. Philly Ties Series 2-2 Game Five: The Flyers strike first at home as 4:22 into the period, Mike Richards snipes one home to give them a 1-0 lead. Only 5 mins later, Peter Forsberg answers for the Avalanche to tie this one up at one a piece. This would be short lived as 24 seconds later, Flyers David Printz will score to bring the Flyers ahead again 2-1 going into the second period. 2:18 into the period, Avalanche tie things up again as Alex Tanguay scores to make it 2-2. The Flyers wouldn't take long to answer as 4:56 Mike Richards scores his second of the game making it 3-2 and Mike Knuble would score at the 9:19 mark also to give the Flyers a two goal lead half way through the second. The Avalanche bring it within one at 11:19 as Dan Hinote would score to make it 4-3. Again though, the Flyers would answer as 13:31 Michal Handzus would rip one home to gain the two goal lead again. Daniil Markov would score a goal near the end of the period as Philly would start the third with a 6-3 Lead over the Avalanche. Peter Forsberg would score his second of the game early in the third, but that would be the only goal of the period as Philly takes the series lead with a 6-4 win. Flyers Lead Series 3-2 Game Six: Colorado must win to take this game to game seven or be eliminate at home. The first period showed no scoring but 5 penalties (PHI with 4 of them). At 7:47 of the second we seen the scoreless game cracked by Colorado's Brett McLean. Avalanche would strike again at 9:11 by Karlis Skrastins as the Avalanche would take a 2-0 lead half way through the second period. The Flyers would finally crack the scoreboard, as Jeff Carter scores on the PP to bring Philly within one heading into the third period. (3/5 of the penalties were on PHI) The third period would see John-Michael Liles score on the PP at 3:32 and would be the only goal of the period as the Avalanche survive and we will see game seven happen in Philly! 3-1 Win for Avalanche Avalanche Force Game Seven Game Seven: Winner takes all with Philly getting the home ice advantage. The first period seen Colorado take 3/5 of the penalties as we ended the first scoreless and adding even more tention heading to the second period of this game seven match-up. 3:50 into the second seen the Avalanche break the tie as John-Michael Liles scores the only goal of the second to send the Avalanche into the third and final period with a 1-0 lead. (Each team took 2 penalties) Jamie Langenbrunner silenced the Philly fans at the 13:12 mark of the third as the Avalanche took a 2-0 lead with 6:48 left in the game. Peter Forsberg would add insault to injury at the 17:17 mark with a PP goal as that would be the final goal of this series, as the Colorado Avalanche win 3-0 in game SEVEN!
