BZ 1728: Pitcher also playing in the field.

In a 1901 league, Clark Griffith is pitching and playing RF for the White Sox... at the same time.

This is an extreme case, as the league started in 1901 and is using only real players, the Sox only had 12 position players play for them in that season, and they're down to seven healthy position players right now and there aren't any available players to pick up. As a result, Griffith has been playing RF regularly. Now that it's his turn in the rotation, he's still playing RF. That shouldn't happen, regardless of how many players are out with injuries.

(Though if it were Rube Waddell doing it, I'd congratulate the game for being amazingly accurate.)

similar, but in the same tangent..

i've started a 2008 game, and several times the computer has put a pitcher in as an injury replacement, regardless of who else was on the bench.

This has been marked as something to be addressed at a later time.

This has always been an issue with small rosters since I started playing this game, OOTP5. It seems the game does not consider the complete roster and who is available when selecting starting lineup and pitchers. It seems to keep the 2 selections separate.

This problem occurs if you have setup your depth chart to include a starting pitcher as sub therefore a possible starting position player as well as a starting position player as spot starter. I start in 1871 so all teams have just 1 starter and an occasional spot starter.

One way avoid this problem without fixing the program would be to make sure the rotation and starter/sub depth charts do not overlap players.

Another is to manage each game and take over the substitution with a human manager. Swap out the duplicated player. Do not switch back to AI manager until after you click start game otherwise the AI will switch back to the original lineups. You can then sim the complete game or play it out. Also make sure that Simulate World in Background is set to no so no other games are played at the same time.

A much later time, apparently, as it's still an issue in the current version. Denny Mack is currently pitching, playing shortstop, and pinch running in my game.
