RP Howe as "Specialist" in bullpen
 
Have RP Steve Howie (77) in my bullpen.
He is very good vs LHB and average against RHB.

After AI setup of my bullpen, his secondary role is "Specialist".

Does that automatically mean specialist vs left-handed batters?

There is no more information or any other hint, that this role means specialist against LHB.
That little piece of information is missing in the bullpen drop down menu.

The secondary specialist is against same-handed batters (ie. a traditional LOOGY or ROOGY type of role).

As Howie throws left, he therefore is a specialist vs left-handed batters, right?

Hope AI really makes these pitching changes right. :-)

only as a secondary, his primary role is what he still fulfills. If you want him to be a PURE specialist, set specialist to his PRIMARY role.

I've had some luck lately with setting LHP relievers as specialists only with no other role. Previously my lefty relievers were getting shelled, destroyed, and embarrassed at Perfect Level. But now I've set guys like Tom Hamburger, Steve "Gordie" Howe, and King-Kong Kuo to specialists and that's stopped the bleeding. They don't pitch many innings but at least they're still alive.

Building on this though, if a player is set as a specialist and the opposition have say 6 lefties in a row, does that pitcher continue to pitch, assuming he has the stamina? Or is he pulled after getting one out? Just wanting to clarify if the role is hard coded for 1 batter, etc.

I haven't tested it myself so was just curious if anybody else had experience with it. I would hope he would stay in for all 6 assuming he was effective/had stamina. Just not sure.

Yeah, generally speaking he'd stay in as long as the other team is running same-handed players.
